James Blunt

"...and I'll spend the weekend shoutin' out to my favorites...."

She's filthy, overly dramatic, overly familiar, extremely violent, unstable, highly unprofessional, nearly bankrupt, promiscuous, and unable to give or receive love. Completely unworthy of admiration, but always demanding respect.

I'll soak her spirit in and smile. I'm too enamored with the she I used to know. I don't know if she ever existed in that form. I just know she's different now.

I'll spend the weekend tryin' to let her know how I feel. "You're beautiful, but we can't be together. It's over." I'm moving on. It will be gradual, but I'll move on.

It's funny how you never realize how much pull something has over you until you try to leave. I've spent what feels like my whole life in love, thought I was over it, then it's back full fledged. I really believe that this is the last hurrah.

The last weekend of summer will appropriately be spent in the Motor. Helping me to bid a fond adieu will be A Tribe Called Quest tonight, Frankie Beverly and Maze tomorrow, the Detroit Jazz Festival, The Arts, Beats, and Eats Festival, and excessive amounts of alcohol.

The "D" is amazing in the summer. Absolutely amazing. I can't wait to tell her how beautiful she is.

I hope I see you tonight dawg!!! Hey.... can we bring cameras???? I hope so cause I am trying to get my memorabilia on!!

Knockout Zed said...

I'm jealous of lip gloss.

Don't count on it. When I went to see SanginDiva at Chene, they were prohibitiing cameras. I think the rule is still in effect.

nikki said...

DAMN. you going to da bomb concert. lucky you.

i like this entry. perhaps a more revealing one than most of the others.

Knockout Zed said...

Quest, EPMD, Slum Village. It oughta be kinda like homecoming for all the old hip hop heads in Detroit.

You think this is pretty revealing?

As I re-read, maybe so.

Disco said...

i used to love H.E.R.......

Disco said...

And DAMMIT!! I NEED to take a pic of Quest!!!! SHIT!!!!! :( I'm mad now....

This is how I feel about Philly sometimes. I love her, it will always be home, i miss the hell out of her sometimes, but I can not go back there to live.
But the saying "you can always go home" is so true. You just can't stay.

Little Brown Girl said...

Wish I could say I felt that way about New Jersey LOL!! But instead I'm like good riddens!!!! Awwwwwwwww enjoy the festival and the "D" this weekend...Tribe??? That's serious...I am sure the show will be TIGHT!

My weekend is looking rather bleek, but nevermid...You have enough fun for the both of us Papi and be safe!!! (Oh sorry I forgot you don't like being called Papi LOL!)

BKBajan said...

The D sounds like Brooklyn. . . have a most wonderful weekend Zed (you have a pretty good lineup) and all the bloggers have a good one tooo!
@Robyn - sneak the camera in - take that "one" perfect picture - when security comes over - tell them you will put the camera away - hopefully they won't confiscate, good luck.

I can't believe summer is over! Damm, damm, double damm!

Oh and have a great weekend!

I said good riddance when I left that one horse town taht I called home. And I say good riddance to summer. Enough already. The tourists need to go home.

chele said...

oh yeah ... have a good time. :)

Knockout Zed said...

You already got pic with Tip! What more do you want?

I know I can never go back. The nature of my job requires me to work with city governments, even if I was a consultant. I can't work with the city government in Detroit. Those Africans are insane.

I miss that big dirty ass city.

What you mean your weekend is looking bleak? I don't buy it!

For the record, I don't mind being called "Papi". My contention was that if you call me "papi", you're ready for some lovin'.

From what I understand about Brooklyn, there is a lot of that super-proud thing that people from there carry with them. From my experience, I know it's that way with people from Detroit, Chicago, Oakland, and Philly. People I know raised in these cities feel like they can conquer the world because the city built them for this shit. It's a funny little thing.

Yeah, it's done. Unless you're going to Australia.

Knockout Zed said...

You're cranky today. What's wrong? Too much sex?

You have a great weekend, too!

Isha said...

O.K. So I'mma comment on the writing skills. The way you laid that out was nice. Had me over here thinking that you were trying to let go of someone you really cared about. *Isha* "Ooooh, this is what's going on with Z, poor thing".

Good writing this week Z. Watch it, you might get mushy.

Enjoy the weekend

You love the D. You wanna marry it. You'll never be farther than eyesight from your true love...and that's awesome!

I'm a gypsy, i where ever i lay my hat is my home, but it's nice to feel an attachment to a specific place.

Have loads of fun picking up strays!

Jealous! I wanted to check out Tribe. You must do a post off all these concerts you're gonna see.

Disco said...

@1SexyBajan: Girrrrl.... I wish I COULD bring my camera, but it is BIG and bulky and I have a big ass zoom lens so I can get close...... eh..... I'd be booted before I even GOT past security!! LOL

@KZ: Uh..... what EVERY TRUE-BLUE Quest fan wants......

Tribe is in the A on the 23rd, I don't know how is coming with them. Gotta get my tickets this weekend.

Phoenix said...

hey I have a "special" relationship with cleveland (see my post Cleveland). When I was there I too got to see some good concerts and shows.

Knockout Zed said...

So you're trying to tell me that if I hone my writing skills I can get some sympathy smooches?

@Miss Ahmad
I'm breaking up with her, I'm not marrying her. I'm open to new loves, but it's gonna be rough.

@Miz JJ
I'm gonna have to step my game up to describe the feeling I'mma get seeing the Tribe together again. Every other thing I do this weekend will pale in comparison.

Maybe we can get you some press credentials. Nice and forged.

@T Cas
They're coming through here on some ol' school tribute thing. They are actually the first part of a two part concert. The second part is Ice Cube, Ice T and Too $hort. I'm a Cube fan, but not enough of one I guess.

Would that relationship with Cleveland include liquor and/or sex?

chele said...

Too much? Is that even possible? The weather has me cranky.

Knockout Zed said...

Yeah, I thought that might be a stretch when I wrote it.

It's friggin' 62 degrees here. Fall has arrived.

Isha said...

Lol...I offered you a nice hug the other day and you did nothing with it. I just said watch ya hands and where you lay ya' head. And ya' writing skills are already there dear, I keep coming back for more don't I?!?!?

Phoenix said...

some sex but not that much liquor.

Knockout Zed said...

Are you sure I didn't take that hug?

It musta been an imposter writing in my place.

The recipe for fun calls for equal parts sex and liquor. Didn't you learn anything in college?

Angel said...

i LOVE frankie beverly and maze!!!!! "after the morning after," "before i let go," "happy feelings," and "joy and pain" just might be my faves!!! ;-)

Knockout Zed said...

Frankie Beverly is that deal. I didn't realize you were such a precocious youth.

A.u.n.t. Jackie said...

umm will you buy me one of those big booty dolls for my birthday?

1969 said...

I had a serious response till I read Miss Ahmad's...LOL

I feel that way about NY. So I totally understand.

Enjoy that concert. I hope you get to meet your Bonita, Bonita, Bonita.

Angel said...

and just what is it that makes me so "precocious" mr. ruxpin?

I love her but I can't stay, but then again, I can't stay away....

I wasn't born in Chicago. I moved here after high school from Poo-Dubt, U S Of A. I love Chicago as a whole but I don't get the whole South Side versus West Side that folks cling too. Remember folks Chicago does a North side but folks rarely represent...I love Chicago. I hated Altanta because it wasn't Chicago. I sort of liked the vibe of Philly. *Had some really good loving from a brotha in Philly...I thinks I must go back to visit*

I can't wait to hear about your weekend Zed.
